Scoala Gimnaziala nr. 5

Our school is situated on the outskirts of Galati, in a district of workers. Due to the present economical situation and especially to the Steel Plant that used to ensure many jobs and now it works only at a quarter of its capacity, we have to deal with unemployment. As a result, many parents are forced to go abroad to find a job and this leads to family separation, children being left without the emotional, educational and financial support.Despite this social problem, our school pays special attention to each and every child, showing interest and support in the education of the young generation.

Taking into account their students’ abilities and interests, teachers try to adapt the teaching methods and involve children in extracurricular activities such as competitions, projects, school festivities and volunteering activities (visits at orphanages and nursing homes, ecological activities). For example, we should mention the 1st prize at the National Competition of Physics, good results at the National Competition of Astronomy and the regional English Theatre Festival (1st and 2nd prizes for performance). Our school is also proud of the dance, theatre and drawing clubs meant to develop physical and artistic abilities.

We have a special interest in projects with European partners as we want to learn about other cultures.  We had a teacher exchange with a school in Austria based on a comparison between our educational systems. Last year we started 2 etwinning projects about the importance of books and the presence of nature in art and literature; we have already applied for a Quality Label.

Teachers are committed to offering all the necessary knowledge so that students could be prepared for their future, taking into consideration the national and European educational requests. We intend to accomplish many goals taking part into this multilateral partnership:- To improve our students’ communication competences using the English language- To develop digital competences- To make them work as a team showing tolerance and understanding towards the others- To make them responsible and able to accomplish tasks before deadlines- To appreciate other peoples’ culture- To change the mentality of European countries regarding Romania and its peopleAs established, we will participate to all the activities, presenting traditional songs, costumes and dances, organizing exhibitions, performing plays, creating a logo, writing reports, preparing meetings.
