Strabraggan National School

Strabraggan National School is a co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise. It is located in the parish of Kilronan, near the shores of Lough Allen in north Co. Roscommon. Strabraggan National School is a small rural school in the heart of the community of Arigna on the boarder of Leitrim and Roscommon.

We have a small number of pupils, however they have many problems stemming from the economic disadvantage of the area.  It was built in 1969 and currently, there are thirty pupils on the rolls who are taught in two multi-grade classrooms. Enrolment levels are stable and overall attendance is good.

High unemployment and large families only add to the social problems.  However the community as a whole and especiall the school community is rich in music and traditional culture.  We hope that the comenius project will broaden the children's horizon and equip them for a life as part of the wider European community and avoid the social exclusion from living in a remote part of the country.
